University*

I remember sitting in my second year Algebra and Analysis exam, looking at the first two questions and thinking: “I recognise most of those words. I definitely have notes on them. But I have no idea what they mean.”

Everyone has a day when they wake up and maths is suddenly hard. That was mine.

My aim is to help people get through that day and avoid the kind of blind panic I had in that exam. (I have a vague recollection of begging for marks in one of my answers.)

Whether you’re missing a few key points from A-level, struggling to make sense of vector calculus or muddled up with matrices, I can help you get on top of your course and succeed in your degree studies.

What I can do for you

If you work with me, I’ll help you to

  • solve problems effectively
  • build your confidence in maths
  • develop efficient study habits
  • find maths more simple and logical

Who I’m not

I’m not your lecturer – so it’s fine to make mistakes and learn from them, it’s fine to ask me questions, it’s fine to ask to go over topics again, even really basic ones.

Especially really basic ones.

If you forget how to count, I’ll help you.

You can drop me an e-mail or a text any time if you have a question, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Who I am

I do know maths.

I got my PhD in maths from St Andrews in 2003, and then worked as a researcher on a NASA/NSF project in the USA for a few years.

I came back to the UK in January 2008 and have been tutoring full-time since December 2008.

I have a clean ECRB disclosure and will happily provide references from satisfied parents and students if you’d like.

How much do classes cost?

The first hour is a risk-free session – if you’re not happy afterwards, for any reason, the class is free.

I offer classes online using Skype or at my classroom in Lower Parkstone. Alternatively, if you’re in the Poole/Bournemouth area, I can come to your home for a small extra fee.

As for payment, I can accept bank transfers, cheques and cash.

What now?

If you’d like to book your no-risk first class, click here to e-mail me, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Alternatively, you can call me on 07796 430 862 – I’ll speak with you if I can, but please leave a message if I’m not available.

I aim to reply to all messages within 24 hours unless I’m on holiday.
